The slopes convert to hiking trails, mountain biking trails, chairlift rides, and disc golf during the warmer months.  Additional hiking trails beside cascading mountain streams are abundant.  Buckeye Recreation Center, a short five-mile drive, provides basketball courts, tennis courts, racquetball courts, a playground, and a picturesque lake for fishing and paddle-boating. The town of Banner Elk is six miles away at the base of the mountain, with attractions like High Country UTV Tours, Sugar Creek Gem Mining, the Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster, and Wildcat Lake.  Other area attractions include the iconic Tweetsie Railroad, Linville Caverns, trout fishing, nearby hiking trails with water falls, whitewater rafting, Hawksnest Ziplines, and Grandfather Mountain.

At an elevation of 4,330 feet above sea level, this High Country escape offers guests an opportunity to experience mountain living at its best, where guests can enjoy the cool mountain breezes and mild summer temperatures. Unlike many Beech Mountain homes, central air conditioning is supplied for the rare days when temperatures get a little warmer. Deer Trail Lodge boasts vaulted, open ceilings and an open, bright, loft-style floor plan.  In the living room guests enjoy the comfy leather seating which is centered around a stone fireplace and a large HDTV, with Roku for streaming. The large, custom-designed kitchen boasts granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, custom tin ceiling, and island seating for two. There is also seating for six at the rustic dining table. The kitchen supplies include an abundance of essential cooking accessories, such as a waffle maker, crock pot, toaster oven, coffee pot, a smoothie maker, and ample pots and pans.  The upper loft serves as the game area with a foosball table and space for relaxing.  Outside, there is a covered porch with a comfy outdoor seating area, two trickling creeks running down each side of the property with creek-side sitting, and a large stone fire pit with Adirondack chairs.   This is the perfect setting for some sizzling meals cooked on the Weber grill.  Guests will often see deer grazing around the property, and if lucky, the home’s deer mascot, Jackie, may also make a visit!

The home is decorated in rustic, mountain décor, and shows a bit like a local art gallery, with pottery, collectibles, and local art scattered throughout the home, including photography taken by the owners of the lodge.

The Master King bedroom is on the main level with a separate entrance up easy steps at the back of the home.  Relaxing at the cozy fireplace in the leather chair while watching your favorite programming provides a soothing end to a day full of activity!  The attached master bathroom offers double sinks, a combo tub and shower, and a good-sized walk-in closet. On the upper level, the second bedroom offers a King bed, a ROKU TV, and a large barn-door closet with rustic shelves.  The third bedroom provides a comfy queen bed, a double width closet, and windows with views of the lovely scenery.  The fourth bedroom has double Twin beds, a supply of toys and games for children, along with a VCR-only TV with numerous child-oriented classic VCR tapes.  The three upstairs bedrooms share access to a full bathroom with a walk-in tiled shower.

Gravel parking at the base of the home and up along the right side will accommodate up to four vehicles. Travel toward the home, through the Charter Hills neighborhood, is easy on the city-maintained paved or gravel roads that are level right up to the lodge.  In the snowy winter months, AWD or 4-wheel drive is a must during seasons of intense snow fall.  Entry into this home is up two small flights of stairs on the front; however, for those with accessibility challenges, five steps up to the back master bedroom deck offers an additional entry option after the sliding glass door is unlocked from the inside.

Deer Trail Lodge is a pet-friendly home for up to two 25 lb. or less house-broken, well-behaved dogs, with a pet crate supplied for use when guests need to leave their fur babies at the home for some local site-seeing.
